On the Oct. 27 episode of her Native Land podcast, Angela Rye and cohosts Tiffany Cross, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers have been joined by Charlamagne Tha God following their episode on Black intellectualism, which had a title that originally took purpose at Joe Budden. Following a copyright grievance from Budden’s staff over the usage of a clip from his present, Rye named the episode “Do We Must Speak About Black Intellectualism?” and apologized to Budden for singling him out within the authentic title.
“We must always’ve titled it otherwise,” Rye stated. “I believe what we did was improper, and I do need to apologize to Joe Budden’s podcast, to their staff, to their manufacturing firm for that title. I’m an EP on this present, and so I personal that wholeheartedly.”
“I believe that what they took offense to was that it appeared like we have been saying that they’re liable for the dumbing down of America,” she added.
Rye provided her apology after Charlamagne opened the dialogue by addressing their earlier debate on Black intellectualism.
The Breakfast Membership host criticized Rye and her cohosts for sounding “elitist” towards Joe Budden and his staff of their response to the tense on-air alternate between Marc Lamont Hill and Queenzflip.
In her preliminary response to the Hill and Queenzflip argument on Budden’s podcast, Rye stated that Budden and his cohosts—apart from Hill—wouldn’t be invited on her present. Nevertheless, she rejected claims that she was unwilling to interact with visitors who weren’t “on the identical stage” intellectually as her or her fellow hosts.
“In fact, Marc is welcome anytime. I don’t learn about the remainder of them,” Rye stated. “However I’ll simply say, you realize, I don’t suppose that that signifies that we must be foreclosed to having discussions which are powerful or the place we don’t suppose individuals are our friends or we’re on the identical stage. I’m not into that.”
Whereas Rye and her cohosts stood by their views within the Black intellectualism debate, each Rye and Cross acknowledged that the episode title shouldn’t have singled out Joe Budden.
